Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the liquid was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
